Story of Rehan Malik, Disabled Daily Wager Saved By NHSD
Rehan Malik sits by the side of the road in the capital Islamabad, in the drizzling rain, hoping someone will drive by and offer him work. Rehan Malik, a disabled daily wage worker, has not earned a rupee in more than two weeks as Pakistan battles an outbreak of the coronavirus that has seen thousands of people infected, forcing a countrywide lockdown and adversely affecting the economic.
Fortunately, the van of NHSD carrying Food rations stopped at the side of the road. “I’m only out here out of hunger, I have 6 children I have to work to feed them” says Rehan Malik.
NHSD has been supporting daily wagers like Rehan Malik and his family by providing them daily food rations as they struggle to make ends meet during these COVID-19 times.
Hamza polio affect youth support by NHSD with food rations
“My name is Hamza. I am a student of class five in KKO school. I suffered from Polio as a child and have great difficulty in standing and walking. My father is a taxi driver. During COVID-19 he had no work and our family of eight had no food. Luckily, one day My father was standing on the side of the road, he saw the van of NHSD stop and start giving food rations and masks to some daily wagers. That day, my father thought of our hardships and asked for NHSD’s help. NHSD has lessened my father’s burden considerably by providing us with food rations during COVID-19 and government lockdown. We can finally watch our father smile again.” – Hamza
